What is Earl Grey CTC Black Tea?
Earl Grey tea is a tea infused with the fragrance of bergamot oil, extracted from the peel of bergamot oranges and other citrus fruits. It is also known as Grey Black Tea.
According to legend, during the period from 1830 to 1834, Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and the British Prime Minister, sent a diplomatic envoy to China. It is said that the envoy accidentally saved the life of a Chinese Qing Dynasty official. In gratitude, the official later presented a tea with a very pleasant aroma and the recipe to the Earl. The Earl loved it so much that he always requested his tea merchant to blend this particular tea for him. Eventually, the Earl's family allowed the tea to be sold publicly, and thus the tea became known as Earl Grey and gained popularity.
